CES 2016: The best of CES Unveiled Las Vegas
I saw it first.
Bragging rights belong to those who attended CES Unveiled Las Vegas last night, the kickoff event for CES 2016. It was the first time media had a chance to see the technologies people will be talking about this week and beyond.
During Unveiled Las Vegas, the promise of a better driving experience, more immersive media, and tech-enabled efficiency took shape. Roll outs of connected car technology, virtual reality headsets and accessories, Internet of Things devices, and USB Type-C charging and synching products will dominate this week and the rest of the year.
Here are four of the best.
1. Smarter Mat. One of my colleagues, who will remain nameless, loves almond milk. According to Refinery 29, he would also love the Smarter Mat that debuted last night. Rest any product on this mat and you can check the app next time you’re at the grocery store to see if you need more. You’ll never forget the almond milk again. The Smarter Mat was one device among many aimed at improving consumers’ lives through connectivity.

2. Immersit. This new company is making virtual reality even more realistic. They’re adding more sensory elements to an already immersive experience with pads that make your chair or couch move in sync with the action in your VR goggles.

4. Everything USB Type-C. One technology that will potentially change how every consumer charges and syncs data on their mobile devices is the USB Type–C connector. The dream of universal ports is near. Yahoo Tech’s David Pogue named it the 2015 Technology of the Year for its transformative impact. The Wall Street Journal added fuel to the fire, including USB Type-C among tech that will change your life in 2016. Lenovo, Asus, and LG introduced new devices with USB Type-C ports last night, and client Ventev Mobile was talking about the future of USB Type-C mobile accessories.

For some of the other breakthroughs on display at CES Unveiled Las Vegas and some winners of the CES Innovation Awards, join Mashable’s tech team for a Vine tour through the show last night.
